for a series of unforgetable experiences with American
Icon performances of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, George Washington Carver,
Johnny Carson, a Celebration of Iowa SIngers and Songwriters,
and It's A Wonderful Life.
The Donna Reed Foundation for the Performing Arts presents its new
"Americon Icon Series" featuring five "Chautauqua-style" events
from September, 2012 to March, 2013. The performances include two concerts,
a live radio play, and two living history re-enactments, all featuring
icons with Iowa ties.

Alton Glenn Miller was born in Clarinda, Iowa! The present Glenn Miller
Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since, playing
an average of 300 live dates a year around the world. The Glenn Miller
Orchestra, with its unique jazz sound, is the most sought after big band
in the world today for both concert and swing dance engagements.

Written and performed by Paxton J. Williams, this one person play was first
performed as Paxton's undergraduate capstone project in the Honors Program
at Iowa State University. G.W. Carver was one of the most inspiring and
enigmatic renaissance American men of the 20th century - from Civil War-era
Missouri to Carver's laboratory to the halls of Congress, you will
see the trials, tribulations, and ultimate triumph of the scientist,
educator, and artist known as the "Wizard of Tuskegee".

Jim Malmberg was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but has lived in Phoenix, Arizona, since 1981. He's a former award-winning anchorman and reporter who was
honored for both his news documentaries and investigative reporting. When
people ask Jim why he left television news for a career impersonating Iowa
native Johnny Carson, he explains that his decision was determined by what
can only be described as his uncanny resemblance to the "King of Late Night"
both in sight and sound.
