May 27, 1953 - United Artists releases Raiders of the Seven Seas (USA).

Red-bearded pirate Barbarossa (John Payne) takes over a Spanish prison ship, liberates the prisoners, and recruits them as his crew. He takes on the Spanish fleet and romances Alida (Donna Reed), the fiancee' of Spanish officer Salcedo. The spirited Alida manages to escape, but later realizes she loves Barbarossa and sabotages Salcedo's plot to capture the pirate ship.


A Variety review called the film a "good Pirate adventure" with an "entertaining" plot. The review continues, "Donna Reed cuts a beautiful figure in costumes of the period."
