Elegant but bored

April 11, 1956 - Backlash released to theaters in USA.

Backlash (1956) is an American Western film directed by John Sturges and starring Richard Widmark and Donna Reed.

The film unfolds in the vein of the psychological Western. It is set in early Arizona soon after the Civil War, and most of the location filming was done in that state for picturesque visual values.

A reviewer noted, "When interest wanders from the story, the eye can always pick up scenic beauty for compensation." A New York Times review said, "as Karyl, Donna Reed is cool (except with Mr. Widmark), elegant, and slightly bored. You can't blame her."
