From screen to airwaves


March 10, 1947 - Lux Theater airs It's a Wonderful Life.

Lux Radio Theater ran on the NBC Blue Network from 1934 to 1935, CBS from 1935-1954, and NBC from 1954-1955. It transferred to television in the early 1950s where it ran through most of the decade.


During its first two seasons, Lux Radio Theater adapted Broadway plays, and later turned to adapting popular Hollywood films for the radio. It became the most popular dramatic anthology series on radio.


This broadcast of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” based on the classic 1946 Frank Capra film, features James Stewart and Donna Reed reprising their classic film roles.
