She laughed and cried

June 13, 1941 - The Getaway (1941) is released by MGM (USA).

A G-man is sent to prison to befriend a suspected robbery ringleader and then helps him break out to gain his confidence.

The Get-Away was Donna Reed's first movie. When it was screened at a sneak preview in Inglewood, California prior to its release, she decided to attend incognito with Lou Hurwitz, a friend from college.

A few days later, she described the experience of seeing herself on the screen: "Lou and I hung on to each other, we were so excited. I started to laugh and cry at the same time. It was the biggest thrill of my life."
