Millions of Americans came to know Shelley Fabares as Mary Stone, the spirited teenager and older sister at the heart of The Donna Reed Show (1958-1966). But what devoted audiences continue to see today reflected something very real.

 

Shelley described Donna as her second mother, a role model whose strength, kindness, integrity and compassion continued to influence her well into her successes beyond the series. Shelley built a remarkable career of her own – in television, film, and music – but never forgot the woman who inspired creativity, generosity, and care for others from those important early years.

 

The Donna Reed Foundation for the Performing Arts lovingly remembers Shelley Fabares – co-founder of the Foundation, board member, and past president – for her strength, character, and contributions to all of the world, great and small.
