December 20, 1946 - It's a Wonderful Life (New York City Premiere).
This American Christmas fantasy drama film starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed was produced and directed by Frank Capra, based on the short story and booklet The Greatest Gift, which Philip Van Doren Stern published in 1943.
The film initially received mixed reviews and was unsuccessful at the box office. However, it eventually became a classic Christmas movie after entering the public domain, which allowed it to be broadcast without licensing or royalty fees. The American Film Institute has recognized it as one of the 100 best American films ever made.

A timeless reminder of how much everyday actions matter. It’s a Wonderful Life still resonates because it shows that impact isn’t always loud or visible — it’s built quietly, over years, through consistency and care.
That idea carries into sport as well. Real progress, in swimming or in life, comes from showing up, doing the fundamentals well, and trusting the long game.
Great anniversary to revisit a film that never really gets old.— Train Daly
