A guardian angel

Henry Travers

Henry Travers (March 5, 1874 – October 18, 1965).

Travers John Heagerty, known by the stage name Henry Travers, was an English film and stage character actor. He specialized in portraying slightly bumbling but friendly and lovable old men.

His most famous role was the guardian angel Clarence Odbody in the 1946 film classic It's a Wonderful Life. He got fourth billing behind actress Donna Reed who played George’s wife, Mary.

Travers didn’t live long enough to see his character “Clarence” become so revered.
