She was wisecracking and loud

Mary Wickes (June 13, 1910 – October 22, 1995).

Mary Wickes (born Mary Isabella Wickenhauser) was an American film and television actress. She often played supporting roles as prim, professional women, secretaries, nurses, nuns, and housekeepers, who made sarcastic quips when the leading characters fell short of her high standards.

Perhaps remembered best as Nurse Preen, opposite a delightfully irascible Monty Woolley, in William Keighley's The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942) or, on TV, as Miss Cathcart in Dennis the Menace (1959-1963).

She appears on The Donna Reed Show in “First Addition” (Season 6, Episode 16).
